If you know of any others that should be included on this list, please let us know at transact@toynbeehall.org.uk
Two national small grants programmes for smaller community organisations offer grants for a wide range of community projects that can be used for most costs (capital or revenue):
- Awards for All is a Big Lottery scheme offering up to £5,000 (Wales) or £10,000 (rest of UK). It is aimed at smaller organisations and is administered slightly differently in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
- GrassRoots Grants is a locally based funding programme from Office of the Third Sector. It offers £250-£5,000 to volunteer-led groups (max turnover £20k) for any community purpose.
Specific financial inclusion projects may also be able to access funding under other criteria. Many funders prioritise social justice or poverty relief in general, work supporting a specific group of people (eg young people/ BME groups) or work which takes place in a particular local area.
You can search for grant making organisations for free Funding Central or at TrustFunding (subscription only). There is a long list of charitable trusts on the FunderFinder website. Local authorities often list funders who prioritise the local area on their website.
Funding for individuals
There are many charitable trusts who give grants to individuals suffering financial hardship. They often use specific criteria to determine who they support, such as a person's past occupation, local area or age.
Turn2Us provides a website which finds grants or benefits available to an individual based on their circumstances.
Utility companies may offer grants to people struggling with their bills. Some of these funders are listed below. If you know of any others, please tell us at transact@toynbeehall.org.uk
- The Anglian Water Trust Fund
- The British/Scottish Gas Energy Trust
- The EDF Energy Trust
- The Eos Foundation
